Life That Doesn’t Bite Its Owner #3
Buddhadāsa Bhikkhu asks, “Where is the truth in thinking that life is the self, or in thinking that the mind is the self?” He gives many examples of how the human mind sees self all over the place, then explains how this concept in the human mind has great power and influence even though it’s just an illusion. He details how a mind with Atammayatā (being unconcoctable) as its home or dwelling place will be beyond being bit or biting. There are eight ‘Tā’ in the development of Atammayatā, and he describes the first three: Aniccatā (the fact of impermanence), Dhukkatā (the state of all the different kinds of tormenting that exist), and Anattatā (not-self).
