Somebody Who Doesn’t Do Anything
Buddhadasa Bhikkhu
I don’t do anything throughout the day
But enjoy happiness and fun
Beyond words, beyond compare!
Such special joy isn’t beyond us,
Isn’t to be bemoaned,
Only speak of whatever one is to do.—
To be “one who doesn’t do anything”
Getting away with it all day long
Is wonderfully joyful and fun.
The catch is to put the mind’s restiveness
Into the work one is doing
Until forgetting that —
There is any “me” who is doing
So mind doesn’t concoct
A “me” who is working.
Samadhi plumbs singularly in
Acting skillfully without
Threat of me working for “me.”
