The Four Noble Truths (1)

The Four Noble Truths #1

Buddhadasa Bhikkhu Online

There are the four meanings of the word ‘nature’ or ‘Dhamma’: the body of nature, the law of nature, the duty according to the law, and the result according to the duty. All four of these together make up nature and we can take this to be the ultimate truth or the absolute truth of all nature. If we understand nature in these ways, it’s quite easy to understand the Noble Truths. If we don’t understand nature, it will be very difficult to understand the Noble Truths, and most people will give up before they actually understand them.

Looking at nature like this – looking at the ultimate truth of nature – is an excellent introduction to the Noble Truths.
