The Five Khandhas (4)

The Five Khandhas #4

Buddhadasa Bhikkhu

Buddhadāsa Bhikkhu emphasizes that in order to understand the burden of life we must understand the five khandhas completely. Just talking about them or listening about them is not enough – we need to clearly see the five khandhas when they are functioning. He describes the three kinds of khandhas: when attachment has not arisen, when the mind has attachment of ‘I’ or ‘mine,’ and when the mind is pure as found in the Arahant, the enlightened being. He encourages us to carry the practice of vipassanā to completion, and then there will be the pure khandhas and the mind truly at peace without attachment to any of the khandhas. The talk ends with an explanation and recitation of the Bhara Sutta – The Burden.
