8812 – [1 of 7] Understanding Buddhism Clearly
Buddhadāsa Bhikkhu points out that the Buddha never used the word ‘Buddhism,’ then explains the meaning. He adds that it exists in nature – it’s there to be discovered. He tells us that the supreme thing in Buddhism is ‘nibbana,’ or in Sanskrit ‘nirvana,’ the state that is the ending or the end of all misery, all suffering. He assures us that we need not have any apprehensions or concerns regarding whether there is a god or not. And he details how to develop the three factors necessary in any religious practice – sadda (faith or confidence), viriya (energy), and pañña (wisdom).
This Dhamma teaching was offered by Tan Ajahn on 1st December 1988.
