8812 – [3 of 7] Arising of Paṭicca-samuppāda
Buddhadāsa Bhikkhu reminds us that happiness and suffering depend on whether one acts correctly or incorrectly according to the law of paṭiccasamuppāda (dependent origination). He also explains how everything happens, everything arises, by means of the law of idappaccayatā (the conditionality of things). He then describes how to understand these words and how they apply to our experiences. He also talks about how the concept of ‘god’ arose from idappaccayatā. Lastly he tells how paṭiccasamuppāda begins with avijjā – ignorance about the law idappaccayatā – and how this leads to craving, birth of the ‘I,’ the ego.
This Dhamma teaching was offered by Tan Ajahn on 3rd December 1988.
