8901 – [4 of 7] Noble Truth of Dukkha’s Origin
Buddhadāsa Bhikkhu focuses on the second Noble Truth – the truth of the origin of dukkha – while also giving a birds-eye view of all the Ariya-sacca together. He uses the example of a potter making a pot to explain the correct meaning of Samudhaya Ariya-sacca, the second Noble Truth. He points out that the Buddha taught that dukkha has a direct immediate cause which we can verify right here, and warns against holding to the false belief that dukkha arises because of old kamma. Because the origin of dukkha comes through craving (tanha), he describes aspects of it in detail.
This Dhamma teaching was offered by Tan Ajahn on 9th January 1989.
