8901 – [5 of 7] Noble Truth of Dukkha’s Quenching
Buddhadāsa Bhikkhu encourages us to have a correct understanding of Dukkhanirodha-ariyasacca – the third Noble Truth – the quenching of dukkha. He introduces the terms nirodha (quenching) and nirodhadhātu (the quenching element) and states that when dukkha itself or the causes and the origins of dukkha come into contact with nirodhadhātu, they are quenched. Rather than confront dukkha head on, he recommends us to sneak up on it from behind and quench it at its source. Lastly he urges us to study dukkha properly, and it will teach us the way to be completely free of all dukkha.
This Dhamma teaching was offered by Tan Ajahn on 10th January 1989.
